DETROIT, MI — Detroit-area artist Max Jurcisin, professionally known as Big Mig, is officially entering a new phase of his musical journey, transitioning from years of creating DJ mixes to establishing himself as a rap artist.

Big Mig’s relationship with music began during high school, when creating mixes became one of his biggest passions. His commitment was intense, but eventually the pursuit began affecting other areas of his life.

The pressure Big Mig placed on himself to perfect his work contributed to stress, anxiety and periods of depression. By his senior year, he began realizing that DJing wasn’t the future he wanted.

During his first semester of college, he created his final mix for his fraternity and stepped away.

College, however, unexpectedly brought him back to music in a different capacity.

After becoming friends with artists Meltdog, Manban, Sethman, Brummy and Mefford, Big Mig began exploring songwriting and recording.

Their encouragement helped inspire his first album, A Family Reunion, and allowed him to discover a new way of communicating through music.

Instead of expressing himself through mixes, Big Mig could now use his own lyrics and voice.

His Metro Detroit upbringing remains an important part of his musical foundation. Inspired by artists including Eminem, 42 Dugg, Tee Grizzley and BabyTron, Big Mig says Detroit’s music culture helped shape the way he approaches his craft.

His developing sound incorporates hard-hitting records alongside melodic and personal music.

Rather than following trends, Big Mig wants each project to have its own identity while documenting different chapters of his life.

His message is also rooted in persistence.

Big Mig wants listeners to understand that success isn’t simply handed to anyone. His own journey has required sacrifice, late nights, experimentation and the willingness to continue despite uncertainty.

His philosophy summarizes that approach:

“Impossible? Let’s find out.”

As Big Mig continues developing his music and identity, he’s focused on proving what can happen when passion is backed by the willingness to try.
