Former Long Beach Polytechnic High School basketball player and University of Hawaii All-Time Assist Leader leads Portugal (Proliga) in Assists

Queluz – Drew Buggs, graduate of Long Beach Polytechnic High School and Long Beach Gazette’s Iron Man of the Year award-winning basketball player, signed on to the University of Hawaii out of high school. Buggs became the University of Hawaii’s all-time assist leader and Big West Conference All-Conference Honorable Mention during his time there. He ended up using his NCAA-Covid eligibility in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) at the University of Missouri and at Winthrop University.

Drew Buggs signed to NB Queluz out of the Proliga league in Portugal in late-November of 2022. During his initial overseas pro season, he is currently leading his team in assists but also is the assist leader for the league with 8 assists per game.

 On the 14th of January, 2023 Buggs led Queluz to a 87-78 victory over Belenenses with 22 points, 10 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. Buggs has had games of 10, 11, and 13 assists in 8 games played. Drew had a career night on 5th of February where he led Queluz to a 95-93 victory with 33 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and going 5 for 8 from the 3 point-line.

In addition to leading the league in assists he is scoring 15 ppg and shooting over 50% from the field and averaging 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game.
