After recently being surpassed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk as the world’s wealthiest person merely 6 days prior, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has now reclaimed his spot upon the top of the world’s richest humans. As Amazon’s stock rose by almost 1.5% on Wednesday, January 13, Bezos’ wealth also increased by about $2.4 billion for a grand total of $184.9 billion, according to Forbes.
Musk surpassed Bezos briefly a week prior on two different occasions. As Tesla continued to see a rise in its stock prices, the company’s CEO found himself $200 million dollars behind Bezos with a total estimated wealth of $184.7 billion. In the past year, Elon Musk greatly reduced the gap in wealth between himself and Bezos that was present at the start of 2020. The stock price for Tesla rose by nearly 720% throughout the last year and it propelled Musk’s net worth to an unprecedented level.
With Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Tesla’s Elon Musk taking turns upon the top of Forbes’ wealthiest person list, there is a nearly $30 billion gap separating these two from the world’s third-richest person, French businessman and art collector Bernard Arnault, who possesses an estimated net worth of $150.5 billion. Behind Arnault, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg sit comfortably in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
As Amazon continues to remain the powerhouse it is, and Tesla consistently explodes past expectations, the title of “Richest Person in the World” may not be held by one person for too long as we dive into 2021.
