Toronto’s rising R&B and hip-hop artist steps into a new era of self-expression with a deeply personal and self-produced project
Toronto, Canada – March 2025 – Emerging music artist, producer, and entrepreneur ZAYE PARK is proving that independence and authenticity are the new benchmarks of success in the music industry. With the release of their latest mixtape, “BORROWED MEMORIES,” PARK showcases not only their versatility as a self-produced artist but also their ability to transform past experiences into powerful sonic narratives.
The mixtape, which dropped on December 26, 2024, is a carefully curated selection of demos and previous recordings that reflect PARK’s artistic growth and resilience. It follows their first project, “CONTROL THE VIBES,” and marks a significant evolution in their sound, signaling a new creative chapter—one defined by self-reliance and bold musical storytelling.
ZAYE PARK, a Mississauga-born, Toronto-based artist, has been steadily carving out their own lane in the independent music scene. Known for their unique fusion of R&B, hip-hop, and alternative influences, PARK’s ability to craft deeply emotive and immersive tracks has captivated listeners across streaming platforms.
As a Black, queer female artist (she/her or they/them), PARK brings an essential and fresh perspective to the industry. Their journey into music was self-driven, beginning with a love for production and songwriting that later led to a commitment to full creative autonomy.
That journey wasn’t always straightforward. After dropping out of the University of Guelph Humber, PARK pursued a Music Business degree at Metalworks Institute, where they graduated in 2021. Their time in school provided a more hands-on and relevant education in the realities of the music industry, equipping them with the skills necessary to operate independently in an industry often dominated by major labels and corporate influence.
A PROJECT ROOTED IN GROWTH & REINVENTION
Unlike conventional albums, “BORROWED MEMORIES” isn’t just a collection of songs—it’s a reflection on artistic evolution. Each track represents a chapter in PARK’s journey, capturing moments of struggle, transformation, and triumph.
“This project is about taking control of your own story,” says PARK. “It’s about honoring where you’ve been while stepping boldly into where you’re going.”
The 18-minute mixtape delivers a raw and unfiltered look into PARK’s sonic world. Through a combination of smooth melodic R&B elements, experimental beats, and emotionally charged lyricism, “BORROWED MEMORIES” resonates deeply with fans of Frank Ocean, SZA, Ty Dolla $ign, and Drake—all artists who have inspired PARK’s sound.
REDEFINING SUCCESS IN INDEPENDENT MUSIC
With the rise of streaming platforms and direct-to-fan engagement, independent artists are breaking barriers in ways that were once impossible. PARK is at the forefront of this shift, relying on their own creative instincts rather than industry gatekeepers.
Beyond their own music, PARK is committed to fostering artistic community and mentorship. Their label, PLYGRND MUSIC, serves as a hub for like-minded creatives looking to build sustainable careers in music without compromising their artistic vision.
“I want to create a space where artists can thrive without having to conform,” PARK shares. “Music should be about self-expression, not just algorithms and marketing strategies.”
VISUAL STORYTELLING: THE MUSIC VIDEO
In addition to the mixtape, PARK has released a visually striking music video that captures the essence of the project. Set against the backdrop of a high-stakes poker game, the video represents taking risks, trusting intuition, and embracing change—themes that run throughout “BORROWED MEMORIES”.
