In San Francisco and the wider Marin County, it’s not uncommon to see cyclists zooming across town and one of the county’s many off-road bike paths. Much of the area’s bike-friendliness is due to the efforts of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, an organization that is responsible for maintaining bicycle and pedestrian routes in the city while protecting access to off-road spaces. MCBC advocates for cyclists, educates the next generation of riders, and builds the cycling community through events like Dirt Fondo, a yearly 45-mile ride across Marin County.
Dirt Fondo has been running for thirteen years straight, with the latest outdoor adventure taking place just recently on July 19th. This year, 300 riders traversed the off-road trails and charming scenery between the Marin Headlands at the Golden Gate Bridge to Mount Tam and back. The atmosphere was heavier this year, as cyclists rode in honor of their friend Chris Brignetti, a local mountain bike coach who was recently killed in a tragic biking accident just late last month. In addition to celebrating the memory of Brignetti and his profound attachment to the community, the event brought much-needed attention to MCBC’s mission of preserving access to these trails and allowing new riders the opportunity to experience the same connection with nature that cyclists like Brignetti have been able to enjoy in Marin County for years.
Wonder Juice Joins Dirt Fondo As A Sponsor
One of the chief supporters and sponsors of this year’s Dirt Fondo was Wonder Juice, the esteemed supplier of non-GMO, 100% organic cold-pressed juice. Wonder Juice has been celebrated for revitalizing the healthy drinking experience, with flavorful juices that don’t rely on added sugar to maintain their flavor. Each blend is packed with antioxidants known to support digestive wellness and cardiovascular health, making them a perfect companion to the health-conscious cycling community.
To celebrate July as National Watermelon Month, the company provided cyclists with Watermelon Cucumber Basil and Watermelon Lemon Cayenne juices, two flavors from its esteemed Wonder Melon lineup of watermelon-inspired juices. It was also a chance for Wonder Juice to celebrate its recent expansion into Whole Foods stores throughout Northern California. More importantly, this was an opportunity for Wonder Juice to support cyclists and MCBC the best way they know how: through refreshing, cold-pressed juice.
“Wonder Juice—and especially our Wonder Melon flavor—was proud to support the great work of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition as a sponsor of Dirt Fondo,” said Michele Abo, General Manager of Kayco Beyond and Wonder Juice. “We hope riders enjoyed Wonder Melon as a refreshing finish to the ride and a celebration of National Watermelon Month. Our mission is to provide healthy juice options that are 100% authentic, with no added water or sugar. Each blend is carefully crafted to ensure every sip of Wonder Juice is a delicious and nutritious, 100% organic cold-pressed juice experience.”
At four rest stops along the route, cyclists were able to take a load off and enjoy refreshments from Wonder Juice and several of Dirt Fondo’s sponsors. MCBC also took care to ensure the safety of rides throughout the event by providing access to marshals, mechanics, and SAG (Support and Gear) along the way. “Endurance rides like Dirt Fondo really show how important hydration and nutrition can be during exercise,” said Abo. “We’re thrilled Wonder Melon can help riders refuel to make it across the finish line.”
Whether cyclists chose to go the full 45-mile route or opt for a shorter 32- or 24-mile ride, everyone gathered together at the Presidio Riding Club Stables in the Marin Headlands afterward for a much-needed celebration. With friends, family, and chilled bottles of Wonder Juice, cyclists cheered to another successful riding event and the memory of their dear friend Chris Brignetti.
Sandy Allen, Event & Community Engagement Manager of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, celebrated the addition of Wonder Juice as a sponsor, saying, “We are thrilled that Wonder Juice and the Wonder Melon flavors have teamed up with Dirt Fondo and The MCBC to support our riders with the delicious, pressed juices, but also to support all that MCBC stands for to improve biking infrastructure, increase off-road trail access, expand our youth programs, and host community events.”
In addition to its role sponsoring Dirt Fondo and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, Wonder Juice has recently become available at Whole Foods Markets throughout Northern California. This expands its footprint beyond the shelves of specialty foods stores and on Amazon, widening access to consumers across the country.
