Technology has transformed almost every industry, and the music industry is no exception. Even some experts believe that the alterations brought about by advancements in technology have been more pronounced in the field of music.
Increased global access to music is one of the most significant means through which technologies have altered the industry. Previously, music lovers only had cassettes to fulfill their passion. However, the situation has changed drastically since the advent of the latest technology, allowing us to listen to all kinds of music from anywhere in the world with just a few clicks.
Additionally, the internet has provided independent musicians with more opportunities to promote their music. It was difficult, if not impossible, to distribute music widely in the past when people did not have a record label backing them. However, independent artists can now reach an international audience without spending a lot of money on marketing and distribution, thanks to the advanced services and platforms available to them.
The manner in which individuals listen to music has also been significantly modified, all thanks to streaming services like Apple, SoundCloud, and Spotify. Traditionally, people used to buy albums and listen to them whenever they wanted. However, they can now listen to anything they desire without having to pay for it.
Over the years, technology has also made significant improvements to sound quality as well. Due to the absence and restriction of modern equipment available in the early days, recordings of music were frequently marred by pops and hisses. However, today’s recordings are of a much higher quality due to advancements in playback and recording technologies.
Quite evidently, technology has had a significant positive impact on the music industry. It is undeniable that technological advancements have made it more convenient for individuals to enjoy music from all over the world, even though some researchers may bemoan the changes brought about by these advancements. Through improved sound quality and increased access, it has given independent artists a secure position in an extremely competitive music industry that was once dictated by major labels. One such independent artist who has made a name for himself in this fast-paced music industry through his talent is the popular composer and musician Sami Chohfi.
Sami Chohfi, born on the 8th of June, 1982 in Sacramento, California, is popularly known for recording and writing music for the rock band Blue Helix and for his powerful stage presence and ability to captivate live audiences worldwide.
When he was 14 years old, MTV, Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit video, and the 90s Seattle movement inspired him to start making music. It was when his mother gave him his first guitar, a candy apple red Fender Jazz master, for his birthday that his interest in playing music skyrocketed. Chohfi, who was bullied all his life, both, at home, by his alcoholic father, and in school, by fellow students, found peace and calmed himself through music after he moved to Seattle in 2000 to pursue his musical ambitions.
Since 2008, Chohfi has been playing guitar, singing, and writing songs for the Seattle rock band Blue Helix, but with the release of his single It’s Just Me in 2019, he got his start as a solo artist. With his songs Sing You to Me, The Awakening, Little One, Dirty Your Soul, Tidal Wave, and his cover of A-ha’s Take on Me, Chohfi currently has more than 17,500 spins on major FM radio stations all over Brazil. His music videos can be viewed on Canal Bis (Brazil), Rolling Stone, Music Box Brazil, LATV, Indie Gaga (India), MTV, and Music Choice, among other well-known outlets. Chohfi’s debut album, Extraordinary World, depicts a story written in six different countries and demonstrates his capacity to inspire his listeners by transporting them into the scenes he saw while visiting Cambodia, France, Portugal, Kenya, and Brazil.
Rolling Stone recently featured Chohfi’s music videos for This Majesty and Dirty Your Soul, both of which were shot in India. While watching an episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead, one of his favorite shows, he wrote the song Little One. Chohfi will embark on his fifth tour of Brazil in March 2023 after having a successful nine-city tour in 2022, which allowed him to personally connect and meet with his new fans.
Some of the most famous releases of Chohfi include Anti-Social Butterfly (2023), Sing you to me (2023), Take on me (2023), All Over Again (2022), and The Awakening-ft. Blue Helix (2022), Little One (2021), Serenade the Darkness (2020), Extraordinary World (2020), This Majesty (2020), Dirty Your Soul (2020), It’s Just me (2019), Tidal Wave (2020), Tale of Two Halves (2014), Coda (2011) and Light the Wick (2008).
Through these various music albums and solos, Chohfi has not only contributed to the whole music industry but has also set a benchmark for aspiring artists.
