After Cardi B’s breakout hit “Bodak Yellow” launched her into the public eye in 2017, many thought that would be the peak of her success. She quickly proved the doubters wrong landing massive collaborations and winning Best Rap Album at the 2018 Grammys for her debut studio album “Invasion of Privacy”. From there, Cardi took her involvement in the public eye to a whole new level, adding acting and political activism to her resume. Now, after her small role in the 2019 film Hustlers, Cardi B is coming back to the big screen. This time in a leading role.
In her #1 hit song “WAP” from last year, Cardi raps, “Let’s roleplay, I’ll wear a disguise”. Turns out, she really meant it. Cardi B will star in the upcoming Paramount comedy Assisted Living as a small-time criminal acting undercover as an elderly woman. On the run from both the police and her old running crew, Cardi B’s character, “Amber”, takes up residence where it is hard to be tracked down: her grandmother’s nursing home.
The screenplay was penned by This Is Us writer, Kay Oyegun, and the movie itself runs in the same vein as films like Sister Act and Mrs. Doubtfire. After a Grammy Award and multiple chart-topping hits in recent years, Cardi B has demonstrated her talent as a musician and is now looking to expand her talents into the film industry. Variety first reported the news of Cardi B’s casting in Assisted Living on Thursday, January 14th.
