However, for the hip-hop artist GerkOne, his decade-long hiatus has allowed him to come back to the music industry better than ever. This is because with 2020 forcing people to limit their interactions with the outside world, people have been paying more attention to artists on social media platforms. He chose the perfect timing to make a comeback.
GerkOne is a renowned rapper from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. For as far back as the artist can remember, he has always been into hip-hop. In fact, he started competing in freestyle and rap battles when he was still in grade school. However, it was when he reached high school that he began to take his music career seriously.
In 2007, he released his first single, “My Block”, and its massive success led to his prominence. He then followed it with his mixtape “F8tal Division Vol. 1” a year later. By 2009, GerkOne was recognized on the MySpace charts as the #10 unsigned hip-hop artists from Canada. He worked with the 2x multi-platinum rapper, 2 Pistols, in 2010, and it turned out to be his last project before taking a long break.
Initially, GerkOne didn’t intend to rest for 10 years, but he doesn’t regret choosing to come back to the music scene in 2020. The industry is now more relevant than ever, especially since people have limitations on activities they can do, so they spend more time listening to songs. He also considers himself to be much more mature as an artist and skilled in writing and recording music than his past self.
“No Limit” is the first track he released in April 2020 after his hiatus, which now has tens of thousands of plays on one of the biggest video streaming platforms, YouTube. Much to the delight of the returning artist, the song got a lot of attention online and from other artists. For instance, the renowned rapper, The Game, included GerkOne’s new single on his mixtape “Who Got Game”.
He followed “No Limit” with the hit track, “Real As It Gets”, and it was just as successful as his previous work, if not more. It caught the attention of the media, and numerous articles were written about it. In fact, the song was featured on World Star Hip Hop, and the Canadian rapper’s prominence continued to grow from then on.
GerkOne is now actively releasing tracks for his growing fanbase. After “Real As It Gets”, he published the songs with Jadakiss on his album “Big Bad Bruin”. On July 16, 2021, he released the track “Space Jam” with Stretch Money.
Currently, GerkOne is on a mission to bring his music to more people. He’s actively promoting on different music streaming websites and social media platforms, such as Instagram. He is grateful for the massive support he received despite being inactive for a decade, but he’s not stopping here. GerkOne knows he can reach greater heights, so he’s not giving up until he reaches the pinnacle of his career.
