The Durham, North Carolina, artist Hiss Golden Messenger, the vehicle fronted by singer-songwriter Michael Taylor, will release their newest album this summer. Entitled Quietly Blowing It, the project will be released on June 25 via Merge. The album’s announcement was accompanied with the release of the music video for the stripped ballad “If It Comes in the Morning.”

Taylor shared that Quietly Blowing It will take an introspective look at the insanity our world has faced over the last year. In an excerpt from an essay entitled “Mourning in America”, Taylor penned, “I wrote about things that felt important to bear witness to for myself: Class and money and work. Alienation, disorientation, miscommunication, and self-hatred.”

Taylor continued to write, “I wrote to make sense and to begin the process of grieving and rebuilding in my own life. I’m not sure what the difference is between celebrating and mourning. I feel like I was doing both at the same time.”

The album follows Hiss Golden Messenger’s 2019 LP, Terms of Surrender, which landed Taylor his first-ever Grammy nomination. Quietly Blowing It is set to also feature members from the bands Dawes, The Lone Bellow, and fellow Grammy nominee, Bonny Light Horseman.
