Interview With Artist MyNameIsFriend

MyNameIsFriend

Hi MyNameIsFriend! How are you?

I am doing very well. Thank you. Just thankful that I woke up today!

Where are you from?

I was born in San Antonio, Texas. I am currently located in Washington D.C. I’ve actually been thinking about moving back someday.

How did you get into music?

Growing up I would listen to all kinds of music. My father was a DJ and that inspired me to learn how to DJ as well. I would release my mixes on the internet for my friends to check out. My friend Neptune introduced me to writing music in the 8th grade around 2010. I began releasing music and performing shows in Texas. That was the start of my music career.

What is your greatest achievement as a musician?

I took a break from music for about 5 years from 2015-2020. It was in 2019 when I was going through old Instagram messages and I saw an unread message from 2015 from an individual who said they were a fan. It was a long detailed message. In that message were the words “you saved my life”. Those 4 words made me think about music again and how important it was to me and people that I didn’t even know.

What are 3 words that describe your music?

“Feel, Good, Vibes” When people ask me what type of music that I create, I always tell them I make Feel Good Vibes. In my catalog, I have at least one song for everyone. My music is not limited to just Hip Hop and Rap. I have Pop and Rock music in my catalog as well. Soon I’ll have country and others. I create music based on how I feel at that moment. I won’t write a song and record another day. I always record and write my ideas the same day.

What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

When people listen to my music, I want them to know that they can do this too. My goal is not to be like “I told you I can do it” but rather “It can be done”. With the amount of time that goes into one song, I want people to know that this is me.

Who inspires you the most musically?

My brothers and sisters who do music with me inspire me the most. There’s Lyfe Kodomo, Todd, Frank, Tishera Re’gell, Big Sherm, and the entire Rich and Shameless family. I listen to our music more than I listen to any other mainstream artist. When they come out with a new song or idea, it makes me want to work just as hard. Having a team of individuals that keep me accountable is what keeps me going.

Who is one artist you wish you could work with?

I wish and I will one day work with Drake. I have to speak it into existence! He’s been an artist that I have always looked up to for his writing skills and versatility.

Tell us about any new music you have coming out? When is coming out? What is it about?

I have a catalog with over 112 songs. I plan on releasing more content. Music videos will be coming out more often in 2022. My next big project will come out in April of 2022. Unlike the most recent album, this album will be more personal and shine some light on some events and areas of my life that have allowed me to grow into who I am now.

Anything else you want the audience to know about you?

If there is anything that I would like people to know about me, it is that I don’t like to do things halfway. If you have a dream, go after it. You can always start over if it doesn’t work out. Don’t half-a** anything. Be the best that you can be, it’s your name that is attached to your work.
