Interview With Hip Hop Sensation Traphique

Hi Traphique! How are you?

I’m great! Just blessed and happy to be alive. I hope everybody else is feeling the same.

Where are you from?

Kuwait.

Tell us about your background getting to where you are today.

I’ve always loved music. Growing up my music tastes were shaped by my older siblings and family members but as I got older I started developing my own tastes and wanted to make the kind of music I listened to. I always wanted to make music and make a name for myself but I never really took it seriously until a couple of years ago in terms of putting in the work and investing in myself. Knowing and seeing how short life can really be I just decided to go for it and give it my all. Of course I was laughed at my whole life and told that I would never be able to make it in this business and that I wasn’t good enough and could never be in the game especially as a Kuwaiti. While I believed all that at some point, today it just pushes me to go harder than ever.

When did you start music?

I started writing when I was 9 but only started making and recording music and rapping when I was 15 on my boy Grizzly’s laptop using GarageBand.

How did you get into music?

Honestly getting into wanting to make music was when I was probably around 8 or 9 and I heard “lose yourself” by Eminem for the first time. As soon as I heard that it woke something up in me and I was just like “wow, I want to do that.”

Who inspires you the most musically?

To keep it real I can’t pinpoint one person who inspires me in the game. I get a lot of inspiration from different artists for different reasons. From Kanye West, to Kendrick, The Weeknd, Russ, Ab-Soul, Eminem, 50, Drake, Tech N9ne, Schoolboy, Kid Cudi, Jay-z, Future… I could sit here all day naming the people who inspire me musically and the reasons why so instead Ima just say that I take a little bit of inspiration from a lot of different artists.

Any new music coming out?

Yeah I definitely got a lot of new music coming out soon. I don’t really like to announce anything until it’s finalized because I’m very superstitious but I got a lot of new tracks on the way. Despite being a father and having a full time job I’m constantly trying to make time to focus on my music so I will never not have music on the way.

What does a day inside your shoes look like?

Each day is different with me depending on what I need to get done. Most days I do have to go to work and make some money where as I work as a director in television, I have to see my daughter, and I have to work on music…everything else is up in the air and varies from day to day.

Anything else you want the audience to know about you?

Listen to my music because I bare it all in my songs, I hide nothing. This music thing is my life and I hope you allow me to share a piece of my life with you.
