Meet Erica Mason: The Gainesville Legend in the Making

Erica Mason is a rapper from Gainesville, Florida determined to break down the glass ceiling. Gainesville is a city in northern Florida, known for the University of Florida and the Florida Museum of Natural History. Erica was named after her uncle Eric, her mother’s brother who passed away before her birth, and has built a fanbase beginning with her north Florida friends, and expanding to the nation.

Erica Mason dropped her first project PrettyNRadical in 2016, a 5 track EP with a cover resembling Nicki Minaj’s early work. The rapper draws inspiration from Kehlani and Jheni Aioko and has consistently dropped since her 2016 release. With over 230,000 Instagram followers, and just shy of 50,000 monthly listeners, Erica has played for massive crowds including The University Of Florida Basketball Stadium. She recently released her track ‘Better’ on all platforms, a dark trap ballad with heavy lyrics. Erica is set for a mid to late May release, leaving fans to question what magic she’ll create next. On the opening bars of ‘Better’, she claims “A lot of people come and go but it won’t be me” and with the level of growth and consistency Mason has already given us, that statement is sure to be a reality.
