Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, and now, PTMCoin. The Grammy-Award winning, Portland-based band Portugal. The Man have created a cryptocurrency that will be exclusively used by their fanbase in order to purchase exclusive video, music, and merchandise, as reported by VentureBeat. 

Portugal. The Man’s Zach Carothers shared that the cryptocurrency will allow fans to access unreleased music, live shows, and various items of unreleased merchandise on a regular basis. In addition, PTM Coin will allow fans access to live video and text with the band, among other exclusive perks. PTM Coin will be offered and distributed via Rally, a social token network that helps brands and creators run their own virtual economies. This marks the first time that a Grammy-winning artist will be using a cryptocurrency as a way to distribute unreleased material.

Rally shares that the use of cryptocurrency in this manner will be mutually beneficial to both the brand and their respective fanbase. The fanbase will be able to either immediately spend the coin on exclusive material or hold onto the digital coin in hopes of a rise in value, just as major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin operate.

However this relationship between Rally and creators like Portugal. The 63rd Grammy Awards Rescheduled for March 14th

As a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Grammy Awards are being rescheduled from January 31, 2021, to March 14. A statement released by the recording academy reads, “After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host, and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021.”

The annual music awards show was scheduled to be hosted by “The Daily Show’s” Trevor Noah. The announcement was not unprecedented due to the restrictions and regulations still in place in the state of California regarding COVID-19. A statement signed by Harvey Mason Jr., the interim CEO of the academy, read, “The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.

In past years, the show faced scrutiny for its lack of representation of women and people of color in its nominations. This year’s nominations, however, featured a more diverse list of artists, including all the nominations for Best Rock Performance being held by women. Another source of controversy for this year’s ceremony, though, was the snub of The Weeknd, who received zero nominations even though his single “Blinding Lights” was one of the strongest charting singles of the year. As always, many storylines surround the annual ceremony, and the rescheduling will only increase the hype of the 63rd Grammy Awards.

After their stunning SNL Performance at the end of 2020, rock and roll mainstays Foo Fighters announced the upcoming release of their 10th studio album “Medicine at Midnight”. Now, on January 14, which is frontman Dave Grohl’s 52nd birthday, the Seattle band released the upcoming record’s third single, “Waiting on a War”.

Dave Grohl shared sentiment about the writing of the new single on the band’s social media. Grohl explained the fear of war he felt as a child and how his “youth was spent under the dark cloud of a hopeless future”. He continued to tie the sentiment into a conversation he had last year with his 11-year-old daughter, who asked him, “Daddy, is there going to be a war?”

Grohl realized she was under the same cloud of fear and despair he was as a child and needed to show her the hope she had in her future. Grohl shared, “Every day waiting for the sky to fall. Is there more to this than that? Is there more to this than waiting on a war? Because I need more. We all do.” The Foo Fighters singer and guitarist continued, “This song was written for my daughter, Harper, who deserves a future, just as every child does.”

In only a few days, former Bizaardvark and current High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star Olivia Rodrigo has reached #1 on the charts of multiple major streaming services with her debut solo single, “drivers license”. Three days after its January 9, 2021, release, the gut-wrenching heartbreak ballad had topped the overall top songs chart on Apple Music and Amazon Music, as well as Spotify’s U.S. Hit Chart. 

Having demonstrated her songwriting abilities in the past, specifically on “All I Want”, a track released through Disney+’s High School Musical spinoff series of which she plays the role of “Nini”, Rodrigo unveils a new layer of her capabilities with “drivers license”. Co-written and produced by Daniel Nigro, who has collaborated in the past with pop stars like Lewis Capaldi and Carly Rae Jepsen, “drivers license” shows the popstar ability Olivia Rodrigo is capable of.

For a track based around teenage heartbreak, the chart-topping single possesses a certain level of maturity within Rodrigo’s songwriting. “drivers license” is a track in which the 17-year-old opens up about finally getting her driver’s license and driving herself past her former love’s house. Pairing impressive songwriting that is seemingly beyond Olivia Rodrigo’s years with Nigro’s ear for pop production, “drivers license” shows the true star potential of Rodrigo. 

Before taking over the #1 spot on Apple Music’s top songs chart on January 9th, it was in competition with a couple tracks from a new album by one of the biggest pop stars in history: Taylor Swift. Taken aback by this accolade, Rodrigo was quick to mention the gratefulness and excitement she was experiencing in this moment on Instagram. Seemingly eager to dole out praise, the Grammy-winning Swift commented on the post with, “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud,” along with a smattering of applause emojis.

In a year filled with albums that were recorded entirely in artist’s homes, dropped at a moment’s notice, and live shows performed exclusively through television and phone screens, the music industry redefined its capabilities in 2020. If there is one thing to take away from this year in music, however, it is the continual domination of streaming services and how these streams contribute to music sales. At year’s end, MRC Data calculated that the number 1 album of the year, in terms of physical units sold and units streamed, was Lil Baby’s My Turn. 

Lil Baby’s sophomore major label release collected 2.63 equivalent album units during 2020. Collecting 3.93 billion streams in total in 2020, My Turn’s streaming numbers equates to about 2.59 million units of its 2.63 million total. This leaves only around 40,000 units being counted as traditional album sales. As a comparison, the second highest-selling album of the year, Taylor Swift’s Folklore, earned 1.09 million traditional album sales of its 2.2 million total. As audio equivalent album sales rose by over 11% from 2019 to 2020, a rap album claimed MRC’s number 1 spot for the 3rd year in a row (Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleedingin 2019 and Drake’s Scorpionin 2018).

An adjacent note to the rise in streaming services in 2020, oddly enough, is the rise in Vinyl LP sales that was experienced last year. Accounting for just over a quarter (26.9%) of all album sales in 2020, Vinyl LPs were also credited with over 40% of all physical albums sold. 

As rap music continues to break boundaries on streaming services, the way in which album sales are calculated is seemingly changing with the times. As more and more music consumers resort to the use of streaming services, one would assume the demand for physical copies of music would slowly become obsolete. However, as shown with the rise in vinyl sales and traditional album sales experiencing their smallest decline since 2015, the CDs and Vinyl albums are not yet ready to be cut from circulation.

Odelet Releases Captivating New Album “Pisces Pie”

May 11, 2024 marks the official release of “Pisces Pie”, the newest album from Detroit born artist Odelet, who currently resides in California. Pre-release singles for this project began dropping in April, as well as an EP titled “Odelet’s Hufflepuff” April 20th.

Odelet is a savant singer and composer who began performing her music while attending Portland State University for Visual Art. Shortly later she recorded her first record, a 19-song avant-garde exercise in minimalism titled “Experiment” that featured her playing all the instrumentation and performing her own intricate harmony arrangements. In 2022 she co-founded a production company called “Everlasting Tape” in order to produce her first full band production, “The Angels Album”. This record introduced Odelet to the world of Soul Music and R&B, genres that had been close to her heart since her childhood in Detroit. She accompanied this release with an experimental form of music visual, which to date has been selected for screening in more than 50 film festivals internationally and won numerous awards.

Following the successful unveiling of “The Angels Album”, this spring marks the release of the second project from Odelet and “Everlasting Tape”. According to Odelet, “Pisces Pie” is an 11-song ode to classic Hip-Hop production, and to siren singers. “When it comes to my vocals, I just hear what I hear… something about it can feel like jazz… but in terms of production, this album was definitely inspired by my love of old school Hip-Hop.”

When it comes to my betting game in cards, I’m not betting. I could play Juice Newtons “Queen of Hearts” or Johnny cash’s “Heart of gold” over and over, and after meeting the Dawn Lori, she’s the only person that now comes to mind. 

When I reached out to the green-eyed beauty from TikTok, I would watch her Tarot readings on her main account of @dawnsearlylightllc,  and her backup account @dawnsearlylightllc01, as I wanted to get to know her. Dawn Lori’s Spiritual gifts are not only brilliant, but intriguing. Dawn Lori opens up about her difficulties in her life about living in poverty to a single mother after her father died, and how she still donates to the same soup kitchen she used to eat at as a little girl. The spiritual awakening she experienced, that enhanced her gifts she was born with, and how this woman who’s authentic heart of gold has experienced more pain and suffering than she lets people know about, through her soft voice and calm demeanor. She’s a wise woman of Spiritual wisdom and maturity.

What builds a Queen of hearts? A Spiritual warrior?  Well, the woman I’m interviewing whom continues to use her Spiritual gifts to help heal others, and starts a Paranormal Team: Paranormal Mavericks, to help family’s find peace is a powerful start. 

When I asked Dawn Lori for an interview, I had just lost someone close to me, and I have heard about her in the Spiritual community through a good friend here in L.A.

Psychics on TikTok are in mass numbers, but something about her intrigued me and so I reached out, not to mention her movie credentials on IMDB and her ability to breathe life into new projects just by speaking about them. My friend told me “Dawn’s a real one. Unique.” 

In our first discussion, Dawn Lori immediately picked up on my loss, and the interview soon became a reading. Not only was I impressed, as a skeptic, but as a journalist, I found myself reading her every move and fascinated how easy it was that her ability to reach the other side and communicate came with ease, grace & compassion for the person involved.

 

She absolutely has the gift of communication & If there was a meaning of a heart of gold, in my years of interviewing clients, it would be a woman such as Dawn Lori. This world is full of misconceptions and bullying, and this woman had to work hard on healing herself, just so she could come to a point to help heal others. Those have attempted to break down a peaceful and loving soul, and she still would not retaliate. When I asked her about those that hurt her, bullied or slandered her. Dawn Lori’s only response was  “They always want to remember the unhealed you, and I don’t mind being the villain anymore, not in anyone’s story. I don’t expect apologies.

Because those that truly loved me, have apologized. For those that choose silence, or let their friends or someone else choose for them, I feel bad for them. They will have karmic debt to pay. 

That they are not healed, not strong enough to make a stand today, to know I have loved each of them deep enough, or protected them that they just had to find a reason to vilify my character.” Spoke like a true Queen.

One thing for sure, is that she and her team, Paranormal Mavericks, are going places. “I’m patient in what the Universe will bring in. Because I know it will be worth every minute and so amazing.” Dawn Lori laughs. 

This beautiful soul just convinced a very difficult skeptic, and I look forward in watching her and the Paranormal Mavericks.
