What is the first English song you ever learn to sing?
Yesterday Once More, Song by Carpenters, I learned to sing this song when I was 3 while I barely can count 1-10 in English, not even saying speaking. I love this song so much I learned to sing the song even though I didn’t know what the song was about. I cried when I listened to this song again when I was about 12 when I was able to fully comprehend the meaning of the song. It’s just so ironic the song was about her fav song and that was my song. Song is so timeless and brings every single memory back to you. It’s almost like a Time Machine. I eventually become obsessed with the energy and message that carry on with the vibration. I would say I was more fascinated by what’s behind it than music itself. I eventually started songwriting as a self exploration process then went in for the commercial reason. I had zero expectations when I started. I would say at the beginning it was sort of a journal for me more than anything else.
What’s the power of music? And how did you discover that?
When I first moved to LA, I just couldn’t stop meeting people in film and music, I mean it’s an entertainment capital, it’s very funny a lot of people moved here to become an actress or musician or something. But that wasn’t on my agenda at all, despite the fact I keep meeting people in the industry as friends. One day I would be hanging out with a vp of Sony, and the next day I would be hanging out with the director and creative director of a production company who makes Rihana music videos. At the time I was just fascinated by how amazing these artists are but they are the best in the world, but I still had no intention to get into the industry. But funny enough they won’t stop coming my way, eventually I met a few cool and down to earth artists and finally willing to try it out just for fun.
It’s not until I was introduced to sound healing and how these struggling artists were trying to make a living going a different commercial route I started to realize maybe there is more magic than I imagined before. There is much evidence that music helps you to express emotion, heal the heart and brain development etc.
The key point I want to mention here is I believe each person has a sound that resonates with itself. And there is something magical about that sound. There are a few documentaries that have approved my hypothesis but I am not sure if I have found my sound but I am getting very close. During my songwriting process I am trying to focus on what sound represents me, only me and try to use my voice to reflect that. I am witnessing my own progress and my debut single came out surpassing my expectations. That’s why I decided to share with the world. I want to be heard though my songs, and make that personal connection with each individual and share my story with them. If I can make 1% impact on their life I would say I have accomplished my mission.
Do musicians have self doubt moments? And how do overcome them?
Yes, many musicians experience self-doubt moments. It’s a common feeling for creative individuals to doubt their abilities and the quality of their work.
Practice and prepare thoroughly. During my recording process I had 3 stages of recording. I had limited experience recording my first single, actually I had zero experience, so it was a break my shell moment. I was extremely nervous the first hour, but you can overcome that feeling and just focus on the music itself other than yourself and it just gets better over time. There is a first time for everything in life for everyone.
Surround yourself with supportive people. If you have a great te45am and surround yourself with people who support your vision anything is possible. Don’t get discouraged just cos you have self doubt.
Focus on your strengths and positive experiences. Reframe negative thoughts. My mentality for music is I know I am improving myself in certain areas and possible my improvement in music can improve other areas of my life. I am not thinking too much about what If people don’t like it? What if something negative happens? Focus on positivity and don’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet. Cos you will only regret the chance you never took.
Seek feedback and constructive criticism. Working with professionals who had commercial success and who have tons of experience and are open to criticism. Criticism is the only mirror to help you grow.
Celebrate small successes and progress.
Learn from failures and use them as opportunities for growth. Even if you have failed don’t get discouraged either. Keep going.
Seek inspiration from other musicians and genres. Be open minded to work with all kinds of artists, we always have something to learn from each other it’s not just only in our narrowed field.
Believe in yourself and your unique musical voice. You are unique and just be you. Don’t copy or try to be someone else. That never works.
