Andrew Afton Lawrence, born on November 28, 1987, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, has woven a tapestry of resilience, versatility, and achievement throughout his career in academia, entertainment, and business. Notably recognized for his diverse roles as an actor and musician, Lawrence’s journey is marked by both triumphs and personal adversities.

Facing the tragic loss of his sister in a 1999 car accident, Lawrence demonstrated remarkable fortitude from a young age. His commitment to education became a cornerstone of his life. Excelling at HBCU Bluefield State University, where he played NCAA Division I tennis and held leadership roles, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. Furthering his academic journey, he earned a Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning with Technology from Ashford University (now Arizona State Global Campus) and is currently working on a Ph.D. in Organizational Management and Global Leadership from Indiana Tech.

Beyond academia, Lawrence holds certifications in Christian Leadership from Gateway Church, Worship from Bethel School Worship U, and Academic Leadership from Baylor University. His dedication to learning has garnered recognition, including a Junior Research Scholar award by the International Leadership Association and induction into Masie Learning’s “30 under 30” in the learning industry. Life’s twists led Lawrence to navigate a shift from teaching to the arts.

Overcoming personal obstacles such as battling testicular cancer in 2006 and experiencing divorce in 2019, he rediscovered his passion for music. Beginning with a demo tape in 2007, Lawrence gained attention in the Christian music scene, culminating in the release of his debut Christian EP in 2015. His vocal prowess earned him guest spots on TV programs like Let’s Make a Deal, America’s Got Talent, and BET’s Sunday’s Best. While thriving in the entertainment industry,

Lawrence also established himself as a businessman. In Newport Beach, California, he owns “Andy’s Gumball Machines,” a venture specializing in candy stations. His professional network extends to prestigious associations such as the Online Learning Consortium, the American College of Corporate Directors, and the American Marketing Association.

Despite personal challenges, including the dissolution of his marriage in 2019 due to adultery, Lawrence remains steadfast in his artistic and academic pursuits. Training at renowned institutions like The Groundlings, MI Westside Theater in Los Angeles, The Second City, Improv LA, and Bethel Worship U solidified his standing as a powerful performer.
