The critically acclaimed Canadian post-rock outfit Godspeed You! Black Emperor has announced their seventh studio album, set for release on April 2nd via Constellation Records.
The album, entitled G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END!, was produced fully by Jace Lasek of the Besnard Lakes and arrives four years after Godspeed’s last album, 2017’s Luciferian Towers.
Recorded and mixed fully in quarantine, the album follows a format much like previous Godspeed albums, as it features only 4 tracks but over 50 minutes of riveting, noise-drenched, and melodic post-rock. The band released a lengthy statement announcing the album’s release. In reference to the process behind recording the album, the band’s statement read: “we wrote it on the road mostly. when that was still a place. and then recorded it in masks later, distanced at the beginning of the second wave.” The statement continued with the band sharing the political motivation behind this record, as the outfit’s records in the past have always contained.
Rather than sharing a single ahead of the album’s release, Godspeed sent 10-inch vinyl records with excerpts from the album to over 100 independent record stores across the globe, encouraging them to spin the records in their stores and sharing the new music with their customers.
Pre-orders for the album are currently live. Check out the album artwork by William Schmiechen for G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END! By Godspeed You! Black Emperor below.
