The United States Marine Corps, also known as the USMC, is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for providing power projection from the sea, using the mobility of the U.S. Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. Established in 1775, the Marines have a rich history of service and have been involved in numerous conflicts, both domestically and abroad. The Marines have a unique role within the military, serving as the front-line troops in times of conflict and crisis. They are trained to be the first to deploy and are often sent to the most dangerous and inhospitable places on earth. Their mission is to take the fight to the enemy and protect American interests, and they are renowned for their bravery and dedication to duty.
In addition to their combat role, the Marines also play a crucial role in supporting humanitarian efforts, providing disaster relief, and working to promote stability in unstable regions. The Marines have been involved in a number of non-combat operations, including disaster relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the earthquake in Haiti, and the tsunami in Japan. The Marines also serve as the backbone of the military’s amphibious operations. They are trained to operate in a variety of environments, from deserts to jungles, and are equipped to engage in ground combat, air operations, and sea-borne assaults. The Marines are also known for their versatility and are able to adapt to changing situations and conditions with ease.
While the role of the Marines is to engage in combat operations, it is important to remember that their sacrifices go far beyond the battlefield. They are away from their families for long stretches of time, missing important milestones, and are exposed to unspeakable horrors. The physical and emotional scars of war are often carried by Marines long after they come home, and it is the responsibility of society to ensure that these heroes are properly taken care of and honored for their service. One true example comes from Jeremy Adam Blanks, who is a true American hero, having served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and as a volunteer firefighter. But he has not only served his country in these capacities but has also become a champion for veterans. He has made it his mission to help veterans navigate the financial and administrative challenges they often face when returning home from war, as well as to bring awareness to the sacrifices made by those who serve.
Blanks was born on August 27, 1990, in Detroit, Michigan. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and later pursued a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Maryland. He then joined the Marine Corps, serving from 2008 to 2015, and was deployed twice to Marjah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. During his service, he was recognized as Veteran of the Year in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
After his service, Blanks became the President of Rockin’ Our Country 4 Veterans, an organization that helps veterans navigate the financial and administrative challenges they often face when returning home from war. As a financial planner, he advises young service members and assists them with their VA Claims. He has over 600 hours of volunteer time with the organization and has been a staunch advocate for veterans and the struggles they encounter upon arriving home from war. He then served as a volunteer firefighter from 2017-2019, then went to the police academy in Durham, North Carolina. In 2022, he joined Lockheed Martin, an American aerospace, arms, defense, information security, and technology corporation, as a contractor, allowing him to continue to serve the Marine Corps in a new capacity.
In 2022, Blanks published his book “A Marjah Marine’s Perspective,” in which he shares his experiences as a Marine and the lessons he learned from his service. The book is a first-hand account of his time in Marjah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and the impact it had on his life. It provides a unique and personal perspective on the realities of war and the sacrifices made by those who serve. Blanks’s book has received accolades for its honesty and insight, offering readers a glimpse into the life of a Marine at war and the impact it has on those who serve.
Blanks’s dedication and commitment to his country, as well as his service to veterans, has been recognized through several awards, including the Navy Accommodation Medal with Combat Valor, The Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, and Presidential Unit Citation. He is a true inspiration to all who have had the privilege of knowing him, and his work continues to have a profound impact on the lives of veterans everywhere.
