Monica The Great is not a name – it’s a statement, a presence, and a force in concert and record label circuits. As a first-generation Latina out of Rialto, CA, and currently based in Denver, CO, Monica crafted her own niche, combining Latin beats, West Coast swagger, and hip-hop edge in a sound all her own. Her sound reflects who she is – unapologetic Latina, unapologetic real.
From an early age, Monica found herself drawn to creative expression. Whether it was writing poetry, storytelling, or singing in church and school choirs, she always had a passion for bringing words to life. Over several years, that creativity bloomed into a full-fledged career in music, in which she could utilize her voice to communicate with the world. That transition out of script and onto performance seemed a no-brainer when she saw firsthand music uniting experiences and humans.
As a Latina in a rap, hip-hop, and typically male-only universe, Monica The Great encountered her fair share of challenges. From being told she wasn’t a “true” rapper for creating in both Spanish and English, to getting shut down for performances for no reason but politics, she encountered obstacles that could have intimidated her for life. But her determination never wavered. She refused to mold to the status quo, rather defining her success on her own terms. “What is for me will be for me,” she insists, a mantra that kept her moving in spite of criticism.
Monica The Great took her voice worldwide, touring in many UK and Spanish cities. She performed with the Sorry Papi Tour in 2023 and 2024, a platform that brought her quite the fan base.
Perhaps one of her most fond memories, however, is hearing her voice over the radio—that achievement not only confirmed her devotion but filled her family with pride.
But Monica’s work doesn’t stop at her work in music. As founder of Spread Love 5ever, she brings provisions and food to communities in each city she tours through.
For Monica, who seeks to expand even larger in years to come, new music, new videos, and new ventures, but at its base, her purpose is one and the same: to motivate and emulate and become an ideal for whom such is similar, grew with her, and sees a little of them in her.
