“Evangelism without social work is deficient; social work without Evangelism is impotent.” – John Mott – An Evangelist and Leader of YMCA
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). In this verse, Jesus is saying that His path is the path of love, care, and service for people that ultimately lead to eternal life. And this phenomenon directs us to the core concept of Evangelism. But what is Evangelism and its message? Out of many definitions and explanations, the most appropriate one is proposed by the influential Missiologist and Theologist David Jacobus Bosch. He says, “Evangelism relates to other Christian activities in a way that seed relates to fruit. We first have to change individuals using verbal proclamation of the Gospel.”
Evangelism is the promotion or act of publicly preaching the Gospel to spread the message and teachings of Jesus Christ. But Evangelism is only possible when the evangelizing community positively represents His true teachings and exhibits an attractive lifestyle. McLuhan from Nationwide Initiative in Evangelism supports this theory, stating that our actions should align with our words. Another theologist Genischen strongly suggests that if our credibility is lost, evangelism efforts will likely fail. Mumford, the author of The Road to Agape, provides evidence to support this claim. Barth acknowledges that the Christian community has been unable to break down the barriers in families through Jesus Christ. These words raise severe questions within the community, especially when evangelizing to lost people.
“But in your hearts, revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” (Peter 3:15)
To solve these critical issues, Dr. Darren Duran Hulbert dedicated his life to serving. He is an American Evangelist, business owner, pastor, financial advisor, and author. Hulbert is also recognized as a church planting strategist. Since 1988, he has been practicing pastoring. Following his passion for helping humanity, in 2001, Hulbert established Advancing God’s Kingdom, a ministry aimed at enhancing the spiritual knowledge of entrepreneurs in the seminary industry. This public educational corporation is dedicated to preparing individuals with the tools needed to succeed. Hulbert founded the corporation as a “Not-For-Founder’s-Profit” 501(c)3 organization to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission. The primary goal of Hulbert was to spread the Christian message within the American business community. This launch was a significant step towards Hulbert’s dream of planting one hundred churches during his lifetime.
Later, Hulbert worked as an Associate Pastor at Grace Fellowship Church, Norco, Riverside County, and Southern California from 1988 to 1990. While completing his higher education, Hulbert served Lebec Community Church for seven years in the mountain community north of Los Angeles.
Hulbert wholeheartedly believes in philanthropism and clemency. Not only through his evangelist activities, but he propels his mission through several other ventures. In 2004, Hulbert presented his thesis, “Lay Leadership Development in the Context of Church Planting in California Southern Baptist Churches.” The study was carefully designed to focus on measuring the leadership development successes of basic training graduates. The dissertation’s hypothesis was that less than 25% of basic training graduates had trained lay leaders to become disciple-makers, and it is believed to be a unique and historical study project. Besides academics, Hulbert authored two other books, CEO of Self: Leading Your Seven Cultures Amid Chaos and The Whole Purpose of God.
CEO of Self: Leading Your Seven Cultures Amid Chaos helps educate and inspire people to make significant changes, allowing them to adapt quickly and confidently and move forward. At the same time, The Whole Purpose of God is a very thought-provoking book. It has excellent Biblical teaching and is used in various schools in theology classes.
Hulbert was born on July 1965 in America. After his primary and high schooling, he graduated from the University of California Los Angeles in 1988. Later he attended The Master’s Seminary for Masters of Divinity in 1994. In 2004, Hulbert graduated from the Dallas Theological Seminary to get his Doctorate in leadership development. In 2015, Hulbert earned a Master of Education at Point Loma Nazarene University. Currently, he is living in Bakersfield, California.
Dr. Darren Duran Hulbert is a leadership development specialist. Throughout his career, Hulbert has launched many corporations and enterprises. Through his evangelist activities, books, and several initiatives, Hulbert showed the actual meaning of Evangelism and contextualized it with the Bible, the contemporary way of exploring what it really means and its purpose of it.
