Lourvssa (stylized LOURVSSA) is a New Zealand recording artist residing in Los Angeles, California. She first got her break by being featured on a segment of iHeartRadio’s artist Spotlight and then continued her momentum by releasing several back-to-back double singles this past year. Spotify took note and featured “london nights” on multiple editorials like “New Zealand Pop,” “Pop Queens,” and “New Music Friday.“
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with her and wanted to allow our audience to know a bit more about her beyond the music!
Lourvssa, it’s great to have you; thank you for being here! Let’s start with this question: What brought you mainstream music culture, specifically the Pop scene?
I’ve always been inclined to create honest music; I find that the industry is so fast-paced; there are always new sounds and modern ways of projecting your voice. Sometimes it’s simplicity, creating relevant music that connects with people. I’m somewhere in the middle, I love making genre-bending music, and I believe that meeting people where they’re at is the best way to make a difference in their lives.
What was the first record you started writing this year?
I think it was ‘london nights’. I remember coming home from a concert that night and knowing that I had a flight to catch early the next day — I can’t even remember if I slept that night… I remember looking out the window watching the moon; I opened my phone and pulled up notes. I started writing the melody that night. That’s where the inspiration came from.
You are a pretty diverse artist; describe the music scene in your neck of the woods?
Initially, I thought the New Zealand music scene was pretty small, especially after moving to Los Angeles. But in reality, no matter where you go in the world, there’s always creatives, always some hidden talent waiting to be discovered. So it’s a matter of being in the right place at the right time; sometimes, I call that divine intervention. Pretty crazy.
Who and what are your influences?
I look up to my Mom, and I have a strong faith in God — I also am a big Michael Jackson fan! The simple things in life remind us not to overthink but create with passion and honesty.
What artists are you listening to right now?
A bit of everything, to be honest, Michael Jackson :). Whitney Houston!
Who would you like to work with in the future?
I’d love to rock the stage with Lady Gaga! I think that would be fun.
What steps would you take as an artist to break an artist in your area?
Well, publicity is everything, touring, putting out great music that people remember!
