Arcade Fire and Owen Pallet Finally Announce Release of their Original Score for Spike Jonze’s Her
At last, eight years removed from the movie’s original theatrical release, the score to Spike Jonze’s 2013 film Her is finally receiving its first official release, both in digital and physical formats. The score, which was collaborated on by Arcade Fire and Owen Pallet, was a vital and stunning aspect of Her, the Academy Award-winning sci-fi romance starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson. In March, the score will be released on streaming services, and copies of the record on vinyl and cassette are available for pre-order now.
Arcade Fire and Owen Pallet received an Academy Award nomination for their utterly breathtaking original score. Fans of the movie and its music have long-awaited any form of high-quality release of the Her score since the film’s release. Until now, only bootlegged audio clips were available and scattered across the internet on websites like YouTube and Vimeo.
In a nostalgic and reflective statement that came with the news of the release, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler shared his thoughts on what he called a very rewarding process that was an honor to be a part of. “There is a mysterious alchemy in the way sound and picture work together, notes and moods shifting and reacting to one another like a kaleidoscope,” Butler said. “And even in the absence of visuals, the emotional landscape still remains. We hope you have a moment of stillness to get lost in the music as we did writing and recording it.” The Her score will be released on March 19th, and it will feature original cover art for the album, rather than a carbon copy of the film’s poster.
