For this Nigerian-American artist, nothing is impossible if you put your mind and work into it.
Born Victor Onyenweaku, Weku is a record producer, musician, and songwriter. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and is more popularly known in the hip-hop scene for his full-face mask that’s become his signature look over the years. Despite working alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, very few have seen the face behind the mask. That has worked in his favor, garnering him nationwide attention as fans clamor to unearth his identity.
While the face remains a mystery, Weku’s work as a producer speaks for itself. True to his principles, he effortlessly goes where other producers shy away and has managed to create masterpieces. Recently, he produced an R&B instrumental album titled “Case for R & B ” that contains different production styles. He has made the project available on all streaming platforms where it has attracted 30k+ streams.
Weku has also been credited as the front runner for the production of the budding Trap Rock genre. This genre of music borrows its style from elements of rock and hip-hop music. Weku didn’t set out to create a new genre when he went to work on this production. He was enjoying the vibe, which he says is important, but he was pleased with the output. It has gone on to become one of the fastest-rising genres in the fast-paced hip-hop scene.
Weku’s educational background also plays a big role in his brilliance as a musician. Before starting his career in music, Weku attended the University of Florida where he majored in Criminology and minored in film. He graduated with honors and proceeded to earn a Master’s Degree in business and entrepreneurship.
When he graduated, Weku’s business sense and eye for branding landed him a job in the music industry. There, his talent as a music producer and cinematographer gave him opportunities to work with some of the biggest names.
Over the years, Weku has worked with Sony Epic, Roc Nation, Nickelodeon, Sprite, Vans, and B.E.T among others. Weku’swork also attracted the attention of multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Mickey Shiloh. She chose some of Weku’ssongs to record and release as part of her own projects.
Weku’s video work is equally phenomenal. He’s been doing projects with his longtime collaborator, Itunes Top 10 Charting R&B, and Rock artist Rene Bonet for many years. Some of their work together has been featured in some of the music industry’s most trusted sources for news. These include publications like Kazi Magazine, All Hip-Hop, This is 50, and Hip-Hop Weekly among others. He was also featured recently on rap mogul, Sean Love Combs’, Revolt TV.
Weku believes consistent self-improvement, patience, and self-belief are the keys to success in whatever one wants to do. As a musician, he has plans to explore his talents further. He plans to expand his brand into other areas and genres. He particularly wants to get into musical composition for the theater.
